This a picture of a music magazine newsstand from the music
section of the magazines in WHSmith.
The Mastheads on the music magazines are either in front of
the model or behind the model. This may show how well known the magazine is.
This is because the Mastheads that are behind the model may show that most
people already know what the magazine is and do not need the name to be shown.
Also, we can see that each of these magazines have a
different and unique house style relevant to that magazine. A house style is
the regular layout and style of a magazine. For example, the magazine NME shown
in the middle row has the masthead in colours red and white. This is a regular
house style of the magazine because this doesn’t change throughout the
different issues. House styles allows the magazine to be known and recognised
by audiences and new audiences so that people immediately recognise the
magazine and know where it is from straight away.
The magazines are conveniently laid out on the newsstand
which allows the audience and potential readers to sift through the magazines
very quickly and find what they want straight away.
Also, the images on the music magazines are mostly of people
and popular artists relating to the music genre. This therefore attracts people
that are looking to buy magazines about that particular artist and may also
promote that artist.
