My task for
this assignment was to create a magazine article surrounding the topic of music
piracy. I started this by researching the issue of music piracy and finding out
more about the article I had to write. After I had written my article, I began researching other magazine articles
and started to decide on which magazine I would like to write my magazine for.
I eventually decided that the article I had written was best suited to the
magazine ‘Vibe’ because I thought that my article would best relate to that
target audience. I think that my strengths while researching are that I am good
at getting and writing down the information that I need. However my weaknesses
whilst researching may be that I am not good at actually finding the
information that I need.
Whilst
writing my article I also discovered many skills and weaknesses with
Journalism. One of my strengths were that I think I was good at organising my
points and information so that they made sense. However a weakness may have
been that I did not get straight to the point and rambled on a little. These
are things that I will work on improving for the future and make sure that my
strengths also carry on and get better.
To create a
proper magazine looking article, we used a software programme called Adobe
InDesign. Throughout the use of InDesign I have developed and learned many
different skills; one of these are that I learned how to make an article look
professional and related to the genre that I am doing. However, I found out
that one of my weaknesses whilst using InDesign were that I was no able to
always make it look as professional as I may have wanted and I found that I was
either not always able to fill up the whole page or that I struggled with
fitting everything into the whole page. This meant that it sometimes looked
incomplete or too cramped. However I think one thing that I did well whilst
using the software was that I was able to make sure that the pictures were
placed on the page well and they related to the article and didn't look odd
amongst the words of where they were placed.
Audience
feedback was useful to me when writing and designing my article because I was
able to acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses and improve them. It also meant
that I was able to find out if my article was lacking something or if it might
not have been very aesthetically pleasing and I was able to then change that.
One target
that I will set myself to help me improve in the future is that I will become
better at identifying when something is wrong and fixing this promptly. Another
target that I would like to set myself is being able to judge my own work and
change it if it may not be that good. Another thing that I also need to work on
is organising information clearly within my work and ensuring that everything
is clear and easily understandable. One more target that I would like to set
myself is being able to ask for help from peers when I think something is maybe
mnot right or if I want to add a feature that I know which they may not.
This is a fairly reflective evaluation Tasnim and you have discussed Vibe and audience a little here too. You have considered all aspects of the induction task from research to creating your article, remember you will develop your skills as you go along and this is a good first piece of work. Your goals are fine, but you can also ask for feedback and support from teachers too remember! I would also like to see more regular blogging, for example some of the initial analysis from class and your production schedule (Timetoast).
